ReadBit ("we", "our", or "us") is an AI-powered article summarizer available as a web app at readbit.co and as a Chrome browser extension. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
2. Information We Collect
a) Account Information
When you create an account via Clerk, we collect your email address. This is used solely to identify your account and display your email in the app and extension.
b) Article URLs
When you explicitly choose to summarize a page, the URL of that article is sent to our server to generate an AI summary. This URL is stored in our database linked to your account so you can access your summary history in your dashboard.
c) Usage Analytics (Web App Only)
We use Plausible Analytics and Google Analytics on the ReadBit web app to understand aggregate usage patterns (e.g., page views, traffic sources). Plausible is a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics tool that does not collect personal data or track users across sites. Google Analytics may use cookies; you can opt out via your browser settings or Google's opt-out tools.
The Chrome extension does not include any analytics tracking.
3. What We Do NOT Collect
- Your general browsing history
- Any URLs you visit but do not explicitly choose to summarize
- Passwords (managed entirely by Clerk)
- Payment information
- Location data
- Personal communications
- Health or financial information
4. How We Use Your Information
- To authenticate you and maintain your account
- To generate and store AI summaries on your behalf
- To enforce monthly usage limits (10 summaries per month on the free plan)
- To respond to support requests submitted via our contact form
- To improve the service through aggregate, anonymised analytics
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. Your data is shared only with the following service providers strictly to operate ReadBit:
- Clerk — authentication and user management
- Neon — PostgreSQL database hosting
- Google Gemini AI — AI summarization (article content is sent to Google's API)
- Vercel — web app hosting and serverless functions
Each provider has their own privacy policy and data processing terms.
6. Data Retention
Your summaries are retained until you delete them from your dashboard. Deleted summaries are soft-deleted and permanently purged on a regular schedule. You may request full account deletion by contacting us at the address below.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Object to or restrict certain processing

8. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including HTTPS encryption in transit and secure, managed infrastructure. However, no system is 100% secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children's Privacy
ReadBit is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of ReadBit after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
